Forged by Fire: Building Something Bigger Than Welding
Discover the remarkable story of Joe L. Brown Jr., who went from incarceration to becoming Your Welding Coach, dedicated to forging a transformative legacy by uplifting lives through trade skills and mentorship.
A Mother's Belief: Where It All Began
Incarceration
My name is Joe L Brown Jr., and I've been a welder for over 20 years. But welding didn't just give me a trade—it gave me my life back.
The Spark
The first person who believed in that possibility was my mother. She visited me while I was incarcerated from age 16 to 26 and said, "Welders can make $100 an hour. And felons can do it too." She saw a commercial for Tulsa Welding School and saw a door I couldn't yet see.
New Direction
She knew I needed a new direction. That moment planted the seed.
Your Welding Coach:
The Journey So Far
Finding My Path
Today, I'm known as Your Welding Coach, helping thousands through YouTube, TikTok, and in-person training.
Building Experience
I've taught beginners, seasoned tradesmen, and youth trying to find their way.
Looking Forward
But now—it's time to go deeper. It's time to give back where it all started.
The Vision: A Legacy of Transformation
Historical Landmark
Transform my late mother's home in McGehee, Arkansas into a basecamp for something bigger
Mobile Program
Create a community-powered welding program for youth
Community Impact
Provide trade training, mentorship, and opportunity to underserved youth
My Vision: Transform my late mother's home in McGehee, Arkansas into a historical landmark and basecamp for something bigger: a mobile, community-powered welding program for youth.
The Plan: Building From The Ground Up
Restore Her House
Restore her house and place it in a family trust so future generations have a physical reminder of where it all began.
Honor Her Legacy
Install a monument in her honor—not just to her life, but the spark she gave me.
Build Mobile Lab
Build a shipping container mobile welding lab in the backyard, used for hands-on fabrication to underserved youth.
Expand Reach
Expanding to small cities, but Little Rock, is where many young men and women need access to trade training, mentorship, and opportunity.
I've seen schools built out of 40ft shipping containers and 18-wheeler trailers. I've seen welding change lives. Now I want to put those ideas to work right where my roots are—in the Arkansas Delta.
Why This Matters: More Than Just Welding
Legacy
Creating a lasting impact that honors the past while building the future
Healing
Providing a path to personal transformation through meaningful work
Economic Empowerment
Equipping youth with in-demand skills that can provide financial stability
Emotional Transformation
Supporting the whole person through mentorship and community
This isn't just a welding program. It's legacy. It's healing. It's economic empowerment and emotional transformation. In a time where skilled trades are in demand, but mentorship is scarce, we need projects that combine real skill-building with real soul work. That's what I aim to do.
